SHARK TRACK

Tracking Porirua's rig sharks

.

First time on the water this 2015-16 season

16th October, 2014

After testing the boat and finding it running smoothly and safely I set my nets in Pauatahanui inlet catching 19 rig in 2 hours, that's more than 9 sharks per hour (quite a catch rate) considering there is only meant to be a few sharks in the harbour at this time of year. My catch consisted of one immature female (90 cm TL), 17 mature males (78 - 101 cm TL), and one immature male (74 cm TL) and I attached uniquely numbered tags to all of them except one. The one I didn't tag was already tagged, it was a rig shark that I had caught and tagged in December 2014, and back then I also attached one of my GPS tags (for 12 hours), and the track is in the image. Also in the image is where I caught the shark this time, which was in the same area that it had been back in 2014.
